Wearing and caring for your piece
Short, practical guides for SaPrié's hand-crocheted wool hair accessories: how to put them in, how to choose, and how to keep them looking new.
How to wear a crochet bun pin (juda pin)
A bun pin is a crochet ring with a wooden stick. The ring frames your bun; the stick holds it in place. It works best on a medium to thick bun.
- Twist your hair into a bun at the height you like and hold it with one hand.
- Slide the crochet ring over the bun so it sits around it like a collar.
- Push the wooden stick in from one side, catching a little hair at the edge of the bun, under the ring.
- Turn the stick so it goes over the middle of the bun, then push it out through the other side of the ring.
- Let the tassel hang to one side. Wiggle gently to check it feels secure.
Fine hair? Make the bun a little tighter and add one hidden bobby pin under the ring.
How to wear crochet hair clips
- Open the snap clip by pressing the middle until it pops.
- Take a small section of hair near the parting or above the ear.
- Slide the clip in flat against the head and press until it clicks shut.
- For little ones, place clips where they won't press when lying down (above the ear works well).
Styling ideas: one clip on each side of two braids; a pair stacked above one ear; or a single clip holding back a fringe.
Clip or bun pin: which should I choose?
- Hair clips suit any length, including short hair and little ones (3+). Easy to put in and take out.
- Bun pins are for hair long enough to tie into a bun. They hold the bun and decorate it at the same time.
- For a gift or to match with a little one, a set gives you both.
How to care for wool hair accessories
- Keep them dry and away from direct heat (hair dryers, irons, sunny windowsills).
- If a piece loses shape, reshape it gently with your fingers and let it rest flat.
- Fluff on wool is natural; pick off bobbles gently by hand rather than pulling.
- Store pieces in a box or pouch so the wool doesn't catch on other things.
- Wipe the wooden stick with a dry cloth.
