Are crochet hair clips safe for kids?
By Sakshi, the maker behind SaPrié · Updated
Crochet hair clips are a good choice for children aged 3 and up, with a grown-up putting them in. Pieces with beads or pearls have small parts, so they aren't suitable for children under 3. Take clips out before sleep or naps, and check the snap closes without pinching.
What makes them a gentle choice
The flower or dome sits on top of a metal snap clip, so what touches the head is soft crochet rather than hard plastic edges. They're light, and they don't pull hair the way tight elastics can.
Simple safety habits
- For ages 3 and up. Beads, pearls and small crochet parts are a choking risk for babies and toddlers.
- A grown-up puts clips in and takes them out.
- Remove clips before sleep, naps and car-seat journeys where the head rests against something.
- Check now and then that nothing is loose. If a bead or petal loosens, stop wearing it and write to us.
- Keep them away from mouths. Wool is for hair, not for chewing.
Where to place them
Above the ear or at the end of a braid works well, because nothing presses on the clip when your child leans back. Take a small section of hair, slide the clip flat against the head and press until it clicks.
Matching with a grown-up
Our pieces are tagged "For little ones", "For grown-ups" or "Big & little" on each product page. The Marigold Bloom Clips are made for both, so a mother and daughter can wear the same blooms.
